Leather Care Guide

A condensed reference card for caring for your Belgin Francis piece. For the full atelier guide with detailed reasoning behind each recommendation, read our journal piece on luxury leather care.

Storage

  • Hang on a broad wooden or padded hanger — never wire.
  • Keep in a breathable cotton or canvas cover — never plastic.
  • Store in a moderate-temperature, moderate-humidity closet on an interior wall.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, even indirect, for long-term storage.

Conditioning

  • Condition lightly once per year, in autumn, before heavy wear.
  • Use only high-quality leather conditioner intended for fine lambskin.
  • Apply with a clean cotton cloth in small circular motions; let absorb for twenty minutes; buff with a second clean cloth.
  • Do not over-condition — most premium lambskin is finished with appropriate natural oils already.

If your piece gets wet

  1. Pat — do not rub — with a clean towel to remove surface water.
  2. Hang on a broad wooden hanger away from any heat source.
  3. Let air-dry slowly: twenty-four to forty-eight hours in a well-ventilated room.
  4. Once fully dry, condition lightly.

What to avoid

  • Plastic dry-cleaner bags for long-term storage
  • Standard dry-cleaning (use a specialty leather cleaner only)
  • Mink oil, heavy waxes, or boot conditioners
  • Folding the piece for storage
  • Direct sunlight near a window
  • Applying perfume directly to the leather

Repairs

Belgin Francis accepts repair work on all atelier pieces indefinitely. Loose stitches, lining repairs, button resets, and small leather panel replacements can all be handled at our workshop in Turkey. For repair enquiries, contact the atelier at hello@belginfrancis.com with photographs of the piece and the area needing attention.

The shortest possible version

Hang it properly. Keep it dry. Condition it once a year. Address small problems immediately. Do those four things and a luxury leather piece will be in the wardrobe for twenty years or longer.
